Pedestrianisation North Walsham Market Place

Message Forum Coming Soon

North Walsham has found itself in the centre of a debate following an announcement that the town was going to be subject to a 'Feasibility Study' in relation to pedestrianising the town area (this was refered to as early as February 2007 - see Norfolk County Council - Planning and Transportation - Capital Programme - 2006/07 to 2008/09 - page 13)

It has been said that there has been a serious lack of consultation with the local business community and that such action would see the town stores suffer a further decline in trade.

Local traders already feel that the town is suffering due the lack of adequate free parking facilities in the area and any further wedge driven between potential customer and local business could see even more shops closing. With a large supermarket  just 1/2 mile down the road from the Market Place (a supermarket that has substantial free parking) it is no surprise that local business owners feel that they are being let down by those who should be seen to be taking measures to support local services.

The announcement has seen local store owners backing a campaign to urge against such action and North Walsham Biz would like to hear YOUR views on the subject.

We are in the process of creating a message forum specially for this topic as we feel it is very important that the local community have their say. We have little doubt that such a forum will attract the attention of those who should be listening... and maybe a few others as well.
